Aussie Will Power's last chance to unseat points leader Dario Franchitti and claim the IndyCar title

Power took a 12-point advantage into the penultimate round in Kentucky, only to see it disappear in a flash when Ana Beatriz made contact with the Aussie in the pit lane.

That incident left Power struggling with a crippled car and gave Franchitti a commanding 18-point lead with just one race to run in the IndyCar series.

Franchitti was in the reverse position in 2010, carrying a 12-point deficit into the final round at Homestead. Power choked, hit the wall and finished a lowly 25th while Franchitti did enough to take the title by five points.

Power this time doesn't have the luxury of a points lead, and he must win if he's to overhaul Franchitti.

The Team Penske driver must outscore Franchitti by 18 points in Las Vegas.

IndyCar pays two bonus points for leading the most laps and an extra point for pole position, giving a total of 53 possible points.

If Power wins and Franchitti in his Chip Ganassi car finishes fourth or lower, with neither driver scoring bonus points, the two will be tied on points and Power will win on count back.

If the Aussie is second, the reigning champ must finish ninth or lower for Power to claim the title; if Power is third, 12th or higher will be the target for Franchitti.

While the points possibilities leave the championship wide open, Power remains very much an outside chance to take the title. On form, Franchitti has Power licked over 1.5-mile oval courses and has rarely finished outside the top five, let a lone the top 10.

The sister Chip Ganassi Target car of Scott Dixon has also been high on ovals in 2011, making him a perfect supporting cast for Franchitti alongside their cousin Ganassi car of Graham Rahal.

Meanwhile, the two other Team Penske cars of Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves have struggled to match it with either their teammate or the Ganassi cars thus far - leaving Power alone on the IndyCar battlefield.
